A50-mm-diameter, thin-walled metal pipe covered with a 25-mm-thick layer of insulation (0.085 w/m k) and carrying superheated steam at atmospheric pressure is suspended from the ceiling of a large room. the steam temperature entering the pipe is 120°c, and the air temperature in the room is 20°c. the convection heat transfer coefficient on the outer surface of the covered pipe is 10 w/m2 k. the velocity of the steam in the pipe is 10 m/s. the steam temperature at the outlet of the pipe is at tmo =106°c. 1)- calculate the temperature of the pipe’s surface at the exit of the pipe (tso) using the resistance model at the outlet of the pipe. 2)- what would happen if tmo was cooler than 106°c? note: since the degree of superheat is small (120°c is only 20°c above the saturation temperature), the vapor properties of saturated steam (gas) can be used for this problem. this would be a valid assumption. note: assume there is no condensation

Asolid cylinder is concentric with a straight pipe. the cylinder is 0.5 m long and has an outside diameter of 8 cm. the pipe has an inside diameter of 8.5 cm. the annulus between the cylinder ad the pipe contains stationary oil. the oil has a specific gravity of 0.92 and a kinematic viscosity of 5.57 x 10-4 m2/s. most nearly, what is the force needed to move the cylinder along the pipe at a constant velocity of 1 m/s?
