Acomposite floor system consists of w18 x 97 beams and a 5-inch-thick reinforced concrete
floor slab. the span length is 30 feet, and the beams are spaced at 8 feet. in addition to the
weight of the slab, there is a construction load of 20 psf. a uniform live load of 800 psf is
expected during the life of the floor. assume that there is no support during the construction
phase. a992 steel is used, and normal weight concrete is used (we = 145 ). the 28-day
compressive strength of concrete is f' = 4 ksi.
a) compute the total stress at the bottom of steel and the stress at the top of concrete.
b) determine the flexural strength of the composite section.
