Consider the transfer function of a 2nd order system given by k 1 g1(s) = 92 +cs + k
(a) we would like that this system has poles at $1,2 = -6 + 4j and reaches the final value of 0.1 in steady state when subjected to a unit step input. what are the values of c, k, and k that satisfy these characteristics? hint: what is the polynomial that has these poles? can you match it with what you have so you can figure out what c, k, and kare! to obtain the final value, you can use pfe. notice that final value is associated with the zero pole!
(b) if we were to double the value of k found from the previous step, how would the poles and final value of the system change?
(c) consider now a transfer function of the form k(0.18 +1) g2s) = 2 + cs+k
for the c, k, and k values obtained in (a), obtain the overshoot percentage and settling time of this system using stepinfo. briefly discuss why you think some characteristics of the dynamics gi(8) and g2(s) are the same, similar, or noticeably different. hint: can you compare the two transfer functions and explain in what ways the response of the second system differ from the first system?
