Atrapezoidal channel has a 3m bottom width and a 1: 1 side slope. it carries a discharge of 10 m3 /s at a slope of 12 cm/km. a hydraulic jump forms at an upstream depth of 0.6 m. calculate the specific momentum function, the critical flow depth and the conjugate depth. if you place baffle blocks to induce the hydraulic jump where the upstream depth is 0.4 m and the flow depth downstream of the baffles is 1.2 m, what is the force on the baffles blocks

Afoot bridge is made as a simple deck, 4 m long, with a cross section 2 m (wide) and 20 cm thick, and made of wood. the deck is supported at the two ends. the maximum load allowable on the bridge is 10 tons, provided it is uniformly distributed on the deck. to sense this load, a strain gauge is placed at the center of the bridge and its resistance is monitored. if the sensor has a nominal resistance of 350 s2 and a gauge factor of 3.6, what is the reading of the strain gauge at maximum load? the modulus of elasticity for the wood used in the construction is 10 gpa.

Afan that can provide air speeds up to 60 m/s is to be used in a low-speed wind tunnel with atmospheric air at 35 c. if one wishes to use the wind tunnel to study flat-plate boundary layer behavior up to reynolds numbes of re 10, what is the minimum plate length that should be used? at what distance from the leading edge would transition occur if the critical reynolds nurnber were rer,e = 5 × 105?

Acompressor compresses a gas, a pump compresses a liquid. for a given pressure ratio, why does it take more work to compress a gas in a compressor than a liquid in a pump? a)- for a given pressure ratio the average specific volume for a gas is much higher than the average specific volume for a liquid. b)- there is no difference. the only difference is the amount of heat generated (not work) c)- for a given pressure ratio the average volurge for a gas is much higher than the average volume for a liquid. d)-there is no difference
