The vapor pressure of pure water at 295 k is 2614.5 pa. the vapor forms an ideal gas.

1) in some oil, the equilibrium concentration of water molecules is only 1% as large as in pure water. suppose that the pure water is covered with a layer of that oil. what's the equilibrium vapor pressure of water above the oil layer?

2) what's the vapor pressure of water at 295 k above a sugar solution in which 1/32 of the molecules are sugars, not water? you may assume that the sugar is an ideal solute, as in the problem on sugar water chemical potential.
for ideal solutes the effect on the chemical potential of the water comes entirely from the dependence of the solute entropy on the volume of water available to it.

Along 8-cm diameter steam pipe whose external surface temperature is 900c connects two buildings. the pipe is exposed to ambient air at 70c with a wind speed of 50 km/hr blowing across the pipe. determine the heat loss from the pipe per unit length. (b) air at 500c enters a section of a rectangular duct (15 cm x 20 cm) at an average velocity of 7 m/s. if the walls of the duct are maintained at 100c. a) the length of the tube for an exit temperature of the air to be 40 0c. b)the rate of heat transfer from the air. c) the fan power needed to overcome the pressure drop in this section of the duct.
