In operating a ducted fan engine on an airplane, knowledge of the inlet velocity u1 is very important because it determines the mass flow rate going into the engine. the process from the freestream ([infinity]) to the inlet (1) is steady, incompressible, inviscid, and potential. you have two pressure measurements at your disposal: the static pressure p1 at the inlet; and the pitot pressure ppitot measured by a pitot probe on the airplane. show how these two measurements, together with the density , can be combined to give a relationship for the inlet velocity u1.
