1. A General Electric 1.85-87 wind turbine is used for this exercise. Information on the 1.85-87 is taken from the GE website and brochure. (a) Estimate the power coefficient at 3.0 m/s, 5.0 m/s, 7.5 m/s, 10 m/s, and 12.5 m/s. (b) What is a reasonable value for Cpmax? (c) In the Midwest at a hub height of 80 m, a reasonable average wind speed is 9 m/s. What are rational values of k and c? (d) Estimate the yearly kWh production of the turbine device in a wind distribution as described in Part (c). Show plots similar to those examined in class. (e) Compare the calculated power generation as a function of wind speed with the data provided by GE.
