A gas containing 1.3 mole % CO2 enters the bottom of a packed tower of cross sectional area 0.90 m2 , at a flowrate of 2.5 gmol/s. The gas is to leave containing only 0.04 mole % CO2 . Absorption is accomplished by counter-current flow of an expensive organic liquid at 15 C. The pressure is atmospheric. The liquid flow rate is 0.5 g mol/s. The entering gas (1.3 mol % CO2) would be in equilibrium with the organic solution if the liquid contained 7.5 mol % CO2 . The mass transfer coefficient Kpa has been found to be 10-6 mol/s cm3 atm. (a) What is the required height of the tower?(b) What is the minimum liquid flowrate for this operation What is the required height of the tower?
