A piston/cylinder device has 2.5 kg of air at 350K and 200kPa. It has a non-linear spring attached to the piston such that the pressure is related to the volume according to P-AVI.2+B where "A" and "B" are constants and where P is the absolute pressure in kPa and where Vis the volume in m'. The piston/cylinder device is heated from a heat source at 1600K. First, the piston moves under the spring action until the temperature becomes to 950K just before it hits stops. The volume of the cylinder at the stops is 1.5m'. Heating continues while the piston's movement is constrained by the stops until the temperature reaches 1300K. Find the pressure when the temperature reaches 950K at the stops and the final pressure when the temperature reaches 1300K. Also, find the work done and the total heat transfer during the entire heating process. Compute the entropy generation in the whole process. Consider air to behave like an ideal gas with constant specific heats and use a value of 1.004 kJ/(kg K) for Cp and 0.717 kJ/(kg K) for C. For easy reference, call the initial state 1, the state corresponding to just before hitting the stops 2, and the final state 3.

Amass of m 1.5 kg of steam is contained in a closed rigid container. initially the pressure and temperature of the steam are: p 1.5 mpa and t 240°c (superheated state), respectively. then the temperature drops to t2= 100°c as the result of heat transfer to the surroundings. determine: a) quality of the steam at the end of the process, b) heat transfer with the surroundings. for: p1.5 mpa and t 240°c: enthalpy of superheated vapour is 2900 kj/kg, specific volume of superheated vapour is 0. 1483 m/kg, while for t 100°c: enthalpy of saturated liquid water is 419kj/kg, specific volume of saturated liquid water is 0.001043m/kg, enthalpy of saturated vapour is 2676 kj/kg, specific volume of saturated vapour is 1.672 m/kg and pressure is 0.1 mpa.
