An artificial membrane of thickness 0.1 mm separates two well-mixed fluids containing sucrose. The concentration of sucrose on side A is 10 mM and the bulk concentration on side B is 2 mM. The partition coefficient for sucrose in the membrane relative to fluid A is 0.3 and the partition coefficient for sucrose in the membrane relative to fluid B is 0.2. The diffusion coefficient of sucrose in the membrane is 3.6 x 10 ^-10 m2/s. Find the permeability of the membrane for transport from side A to side B. Would the magnitude of sucrose flux through the membrane be the same if the fluid concentrations were reversed?

Water vapor initially at 10 bar and 400 °c is contained within a piston-cylinder assembly. the water lost heat to the surrounding according to isochoric (iso-volumetric) process until its temperature is 150 °c. the water is then condensed isothermally to saturated liquid. for the water as a system, calculate the work in kj/kg
