There has been considerable research on low-heat-rejection (LHR) diesel engines (sometimes called adiabatic diesels). These engines insulate the combustion chamber with high temperature ceramic materials to reduce the amount of heat normally lost to the coolant. Also, the increased energy available in the engine exhaust is used to turbocharge the intake air. You are asked to compare a turbocharged LHR diesel engine against a baseline, naturally aspirated (no inlet boost) diesel engine with cooled metal combustion chamber walls. Assuming that both engines have the same compression ratio, engine speed, combustion chamber geometry, injection timing, type and amount of fuel injected per cycle: a) Which engine is likely to induct more mass of fresh air to the cylinder per engine cycle and why? b) Which engine is likely to experience higher peak pressure and temperatures, why? c) Which engine is likely to have a decreased tendency to knock, why? d) Which factors are likely to favor the LHR engine's production of gross indicated work and why? e) Explain why long ignition delays affect engine startup
