A solar pond is a solar energy collector, generally fairly large in size, that looks like a pond. It uses a large, salty lake as a flat plate collector that absorbs and stores energy from the Sun in the warm, lower layers of the pond. To harvest the thermal energy, oil at Tm, i = 25 °C flows through a 25 mm diameter tube at = 0.5 kg/s. The tube is L = 100 m long. Since the tube is immersed in the Lower Convective Zone at 80 °C, the outer surface temperature along the entire length of the tube can be approximated to be maintained at Ts = 80 °C. For all calculations, use 330 K as the temperature for the oil properties. a. What is the oil outlet temperature Tm, o in degrees Celsius? 2b. Determine the heat transfer rate to the oil in Watts?
