Water from a tank with pressure P is pumped with power 40 W and flow rate Q = 0.005 m3/s through a pipe system with diameter D= 3 cm except at the end with diameter d= 1 cm, where it jets into air at Patm. Find the pressure P in the tank. All pipes have roughness height =0.01 mm and each pipe segment has length of 2 m. The entrance loss coefficient is KL = 0.2, and the contraction between D and d has KL = 1.1 based on the velocity on the low speed side. The loss coefficients for elbows 3 and 4 are both KL = 0.35. Where are the most significant losses come from? (Hint: you need to consider the shaft work (the pump "head"))

Asimple rankine cycle uses water as the working fluid. the water enters the turbine at 10 mpa and 480c while the condenser operates at 6 kpa. if the turbine has an isentropic efficiency of 80 percent while the pump has an isentropic efficiency of 70 percent determine the thermal efficiency

Consider airflow over a flat plate of length l = 1.5 m under conditions for which transition occurs at le = 0.9 m based on the critical reynolds number, re,e = 5 x 10. evaluating the thermophysical properties of air at 400 k, determine the air velocity. (hint: use the tables to find the properties of air)
