1- After the elapsing of 10 full days into the 14-day project duration, it is found that the update schedule indicates that a delay of 9 days has been experienced in the execution of Activity B and that a delay to the start of Activity D has consumed this activity’s “free float”. Clearly provide answers (numeric figures accompanied by clear explanations regarding the basis of the numeric figures) to the following:

a) What is the “now” projected total project duration and what drives this new figure

b) Explain the change (if any) to the total float of Activity L?

c) How much free and total floats can still be enjoyed by Activity D?

d) Given the delays described above, and provided that Activities C and F are shown to have been completed but with a joint consumption of 4 out of the 7 days of total float that were originally available to the C-F-K activity chain: (i) what interference (in days) to the scheduling of Activity K can be solely attributed to the completed execution of Activity B? (3 points) And, (ii) what total float can still be enjoyed by Activity K?

2- Given the delay reported to have taken place to the start of Activity D and the flexibility (if any) being now enjoyed (currently under the updated schedule), please argue what circumstances would warrant that the contractor’s PM, in consultation with his site-management subordinates, considers adopting a revised method of work, crew assignment (no. of crews), and/or work-shift schedule, and whether any one or more of these circumstances is/are evident in the updated schedule in connection with the scheduling results newly computed for D.

3- Assume the total duration for the project under study is expressed in months, totaling 14 months, on the basis of adopting a DBB project delivery approach. When will an estimate of this overall duration have been first made? And, what kind of control will be needed regarding this 14-month duration if the owner decides to switch to the “CM at Fee” approach at the point of time when the design phase has reached around 30% completion?
