A divided highway has two travel lanes in each direction and capacity of 3600 vehicles/hour in each direction. The traffic flow in the eastbound direction between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM is 3000 vehicles/hour. A traffic accident shuts down the left lane of the highway in the eastbound direction at 9:10 AM, reducing the capacity to 1800 vehicles per hour. The accident is cleared and all lanes open to traffic after 35 minutes.
Assuming the uniform vehicle arrivals, calculate the following:
(a) Duration of the queue caused by the accident (i. e., queue dissipation time).
(b) Maximum queue length.
(c) Maximum (longest) delay of a vehicle in the queue.
(d) Total queue delay (in vehicle-hours).

Afoot bridge is made as a simple deck, 4 m long, with a cross section 2 m (wide) and 20 cm thick, and made of wood. the deck is supported at the two ends. the maximum load allowable on the bridge is 10 tons, provided it is uniformly distributed on the deck. to sense this load, a strain gauge is placed at the center of the bridge and its resistance is monitored. if the sensor has a nominal resistance of 350 s2 and a gauge factor of 3.6, what is the reading of the strain gauge at maximum load? the modulus of elasticity for the wood used in the construction is 10 gpa.

Aheat pump with refrigerant-134a as the working fluid is used to keep a space at 25°c by absorbing heat from geothermal water that enters the evaporator at 500c at a rate of 0.065 kg/s and leaves at 40°c. the refrigerant enters the evaporator at 20°c with a quality of 23 percent and leaves at the inlet pressure as saturated vapor. the refrigerant loses 300 w of heat to the surroundings as it flows through the compressor and the refrigerant leaves the compressor at 1.4 mpa at the same entropy as the inlet. determine: (a) the degrees of subcooling of the refrigerant in the condenser, b)-the mass flow rate of the refrigerant . (c) the heating load and the cop of the pump, and d)-the theoretical minimum power input to the compressor for the same heating load.
