In a heat-treating process, a 1-kg metal part, initially at 1075 K, is quenched in a tank containing 100 kg of water, initially at 295 K. There is negligible heat transfer between the contents of the tank and their surroundings. The metal part and water can be modeled as incompressible with specific heats 0.5 kJ/kg-K and 4.2 kJ/kg-K, respectively. The environment is at 100 kPa and 300 K. Determine a) the final equilibrium temperature [K] after quenching, and
b) the amount of exergy destroyed within the tank [kJ].

Amass of 1.5 kg of air at 120 kpa and 24°c is contained in a gas-tight, frictionless piston-cylinder device. the air is now compressed to a final pressure of 720 kpa. during the process, heat is transferred from the air such that the temperature inside the cylinder remains constant. calculate the boundary work input during this process.
