Consider a square pan with a polished copper surface that is filled with hot water. The bottom of the pan, which is 0.5 m long, is exposed to air at pressure of 1 atm and a temperature of 306.15 K (T[infinity]) with a velocity of 10 m/s (u[infinity]). The lateral surfaces of the electrical heater are thermally insulated. If the temperature of the pan (Ts) needs to be maintained at 393.15 K, what is the electrical heating power required to boil water in this pan with these conditions (in W). Hint: Rohsenow Correlation is valid, and for the polished copper, you can use Cs, f as 0.0128 and n as 1. You can also assume the heater has a uniform temperature.

Along 8-cm diameter steam pipe whose external surface temperature is 900c connects two buildings. the pipe is exposed to ambient air at 70c with a wind speed of 50 km/hr blowing across the pipe. determine the heat loss from the pipe per unit length. (b) air at 500c enters a section of a rectangular duct (15 cm x 20 cm) at an average velocity of 7 m/s. if the walls of the duct are maintained at 100c. a) the length of the tube for an exit temperature of the air to be 40 0c. b)the rate of heat transfer from the air. c) the fan power needed to overcome the pressure drop in this section of the duct.
