For an ideal, regenerative Rankine cycle utilizing steam as the working fluid, water enters the boiler (State 1) at 500 psi, becomes heated, and enters the turbine (State 2) at 500 psi and 900 deg F. Some of the steam is extracted from the turbine (State 3) at 50 psi and is directed to an open feedwater heater to heat the feedwater. The remaining steam exits the turbine (State 4) at 1 psi and enters the condenser. The condensed liquid is pumped into the open feedwater heater by Pump #1, and then is pumped from the open feedwater heater to the boiler by Pump #2. A. Draw the schematic arrangement and T-S diagram indicating all states.
B. Determine work for both pumps.
C. Determine steam extraction percentage going to the open feedwater heater.
D. Determine turbine work, net work, and cycle efficiency.
