The building envelope of a glass skyscraper has an intricate system designed to limit thermal transfer, prevent air leakage, and repel moisture. Why would it require such complex design work compared to a structure with vinyl siding? Buildings with vinyl siding are generally small enough that they do not need to be weatherized.
Glass has the lowest moisture resistance of any building material.
Structures with vinyl siding do not need to have a building envelope.
Traditional fiberglass insulation cannot be used with a transparent envelope.
