Water is pumped from a reservoir at elevation 100 ft to one at elevation 225 ft. The pipeline connecting the reservoirs is 48 inches in diameter, 15.2 mi long, and made of welded steel. The flowrate in the pipeline is 36.5 million gallons per day (mgd), and the gross efficiency of the pump and motor is 50%. Calculate the daily gross energy consumption of the pump in kilowatt- hours using: (a) the Darcy-Weisbach head loss formula (be sure to explicitly calculate the friction factor f), and (b) the Hazen-Williams equation.
