In northern Alberta, there is an old hydroelectric generating station for which the generator andturbine are no longer functional. Before being decommissioned, this generating station wasconnected to the grid through a three phase 60 Hz 230 kV 300 km transmission line. Pressurefrom various environmentalist groups opposed to the proliferation of acid rain has led theregional utility to investigate the recommissioning of the hydroelectric generating station, andyou have been invited to determine the appropriate size of the new generator. The followinginformation has been provided to you: The hydro-turbine is located in a dam which provides 250 m of head on a river which provides a maximum flow rate of 400 m/s^3. Energy conversion efficiency of 90% may be assumed.
The transmission line has two crane type conductors per bundle with a 40 cm spacing.

Determine the following

a. What is the maximum mechanical power that could be converted into electrical power at this location?
b. What is the thermal power transfer limit for this power line?
c. What is the series impedance per unit length of the transmission line (assuming fully transposed)?
d. What is the shunt admittance per unit length of the transmission line?
e. What are the ABCD constants for the transmission line?
f. As presently configured, what would be the maximum electrical power output that could be supplied by the generator?
g. How could this be i (for a 5 point bonus)?
h. What is the maximum practical line loadability with 30% series h. improved?
