A piston-cylinder system contains 2.0 kg of water (liquid state) at 20 degC and 100 kPa. The piston rests on stops with no gap between the piston and the water. It is known that a pressure of 1 MPa will lift the piston off the stops. The water is heated to a temperature of 300 degC by being placed in contact with a source that is held constant at 500 degC. a) Sketch this process on a P-v, T-v and T-s diagram.
b) Determine the net work and net heat transfer during this process.
c) Determine the entropy generated as the water goes from its initial temp to its final temperature of 300 degC.
d) Repeat these calculations with the external source temperature being held at 800 degC instead of 500 deg
