When the pump handle is fully-extended, the cylinder of a hand-held bike pump has a volume of 2.0 in3 . If a person holds their thumb over the exit hole (no needles!) and push on the pump handle to compress the air you can increase the pressure in the cylinder. Let us presume that a pressure of 45 lbf/in2 is obtained. Atmospheric pressure is 14.7 psi and the outside temperature is 100 degF. Required:
a. Determine the final volume and the final temperature of the gas if the process is done slowly (about 1 hour)
b. Determine the final volume and the final temperature of the gas if the process is done quickly (about 1 second)
c. Be certain to identify and list any assumptions that are needed to answer these questions

Apreheater involves the use of condensing steam at 100°c on the inside of a bank of tubes to heat air that enters at 1 atm and 25°c. the air moves at 5 m/s in cross flow over the tubes. each tube is 1 m long and has an outside diameter of 10 mm. what is the minimum value of nl needed to achieve an outlet temperature of t 75 c? what is the corresponding pressure drop across the tube bank?
