Water is flowing through a 12-cm-diameter pipe that consists of a 3-m-long vertical and 2-m-
long horizontal section with a 90° elbow at the exit to force the water to be discharged
downward, as shown in Fig. 2b, in the vertical direction. Water discharges to atmospheric air at
a velocity of 4 m/s, and the mass of the pipe section when filled with water is 15 kg per meter
length. Determine the moment acting at the intersection of the vertical and horizontal sections of
the pipe (point A). What would your answer be if the flow were discharged upward instead of
downward?

Describe one experiment in which the glass transition temperature and melting temperature of a totally amorphous thermoplastic material can be determined. show the relevant experimental results in a diagram which should be properly annotated with the two temperatures clearly marked. what is likely to happen to the curve in the diagram if the amorphous polymer is replaced by a thermosetting type?

Air (c-1.006 kj/kg.k, r-0.287 kj/kg.k) enters a nozzle steadily at 280 kpa and 77°c with a velocity of 50 m/s and exits at 85 kpa and 320 m/s. the heat losses from the nozzle to the surrounding medium at 20°c are estimated to be 3.2 kj/kg. determine (a) the exit temperature and (b) the total entropy change for this process. solve this problem using constant specific heats.
