The tone for this poem is really uplifting and glorious. some examples include repetition of “golden” “rays of light”. however, the cat hides a despicable, dishonorable secret because he too can commit sin as his claws catch the fluttering bird. shakespeare’s sonnet 33 brings forth a similar message when he says, “suns of the word may stain, when heaven’s sun staineth”. essentially despite humanity being perceived with splendor and glory, it has its imperfections deep within, just like this golden cat.
