One disadvantage of rent control is that the person who owns the property and is renting it can not decide what price is best to rent the property out. This is because the government chose the price for them and you cant be real picky on who lives there because people need a place to live. As well as this makes the houses and apartments fill up faster given that the government usually chooses smaller rates, so more and more people can afford to rent these places which creates housing shortages.
