First, find five examples of humorous devices that you have encountered. these can include any of the following: verbal irony sarcasm situational irony dramatic irony hyperbole understatement malapropism pun oxymoron next, collect the examples. you can write them down (be sure to give credit to the person who said or created take pictures or screen shots, or summarize the experience in your own words. be sure to give credit to all sources you use. then you must explain which humorous devices your examples represent. for each, offer an analysis that demonstrates a good understanding of the device, its purpose, and its effect.

2.Dramatic Irony:A)Two people are engaged to be married but the audience knows that the man is planning to run away with another woman.
B)In a scary movie, the character walks into a house and the audience knows the killer is in the house.
C)Sometimes a person is in disguise and the other character talks with him as if he is someone else. Since this is known by the audience, it adds to the humor of the dialogue.
3.Situational Irony:A)A fire station burns down. 
B)A marriage counselor files for divorce.
C)The police station gets robbed.
D)A traffic cop gets his license suspended because of unpaid parking tickets.
4.Sarcasm:A)I’m trying to imagine you with a personality.
B)I work 40 hours a week to be this poor.
C)Well, this day was a total waste of makeup.
D)Whatever kind of look you were going for, you missed.
5.Hyperbole:A)It was so cold I saw polar bears wearing jackets.
B)I’ve told you to clean your room a million times!
C)When I was young, I had to walk 15 miles to school, uphill, in the snow.
D)They ran like greased lightning.
