I would say that you should avoid repeating too many details from your resume. Your cover letter should be very unique and rehashing too many of the details of your resume will ultimately lose the purpose of writing a cover letter. Also, your hiring manager probably has read your resume to pre-qualify you, so if you simply spit out your resume there's a likely chance he/she will hold it against you. Hope this helped :))
