What's the difference beteewn theme and central idea?

The main idea is what something is mostly about. Main ideas are typically found in a literary passage. Central ideas are found in an informational text. The theme is the lesson or message that the writer wants to get across in his or her story.

central idea: refers to what the text is mainly about. this is not the topic of the text. can most likely be stated in one sentence.

theme: the life lesson, authors message, or moral of the story. you have to make an inference to determine the theme, it is not given to you. a story can have multiple themes. theme is not the same as topic or central idea.

A theme is a lesson of a story and a central idea(main idea) is what the story is all about.

Refute it, showing why it is mistaken—an apparent but not real problem; acknowledge its validity or plausibility, but suggest why on balance it's relatively less important or less likely than what you propose, and thus doesn't overturn it; concede its force and complicate your idea accordingly—restate your thesis in a more exact, qualified, or nuanced way that takes account of the objection, or start a new section in which you consider your topic in light of it. this will work if the counterargument concerns only an aspect of your argument; if it undermines your whole case, you need a new thesis.
