Ihave a problem with past sentences

1. It was the first time that Harry ever flew in an aeroplane and naturally, he was very excited. When the suitcases were packed, he and his family set off for the airport. Harry's parents liked travelling and they went abroad quite often, so they wore comfortable clothes for such journeys. Two hours after he left his house, Harry sat in the aeroplane, reading a magazine which he bought before he boarded the plane. He read his magazine for an hour when lunch was served.

2. Last Saturday, my friend and I decided to go shopping in town. Once we arrived in the city centre, we went straight to the new music shop, which was opened by a local singer a few weeks before. We tried for a few days to find the time to go there and we were not disappointed. There was a wonderful collection of CDs in the shop, and we both spent an enjoyable hour there before we had lunch.
