Queen Elizabeth I was who ruled England when shakespeare was writing his plays. Shakespeare and his theater company actually gave performances at court. Elizabethan age was a really important period for literature and Shakespeare was able to marry the native folk tales with current topics in his comedies and tragedies during the age.
