Question 1 : Describe a memorable day in my life

Title: A near-tragedy

I helped to save a life and that day changed my life forever. It makes me smile to think about the rescue even a year later. It happened in an unexpected place and I was surprised at my own quick actions. I met the sweetest and tiniest thing that dropped from the skies. It was Wednesday, and the weather had just cleared after the rain and I felt that the evening was beautiful to waste by staying indoors, so I went out for a walk in the park. I was feeling lazy and wanted to come home late, so I could skip doing household chores. I was anticipating my mother would have finished the household chores by the time I returned.  

Suddenly, my ears twitched, I heard a baby bird chirping frantically as if it was afraid or injured. Instinctively, I searched for the source of the cries and spotted a tiny fluffy bird huddled at the corner of a bush. It hopped away when it saw me approaching and I realised that it could not fly off as it had not sprouted enough flight feathers.  It also looked malnourished as its head was nearly bald.

It was getting dark and knowing that animals like rats would soon come out to forage for food, I scooped up the frightened bird before it became a quick snack for any rodents, cats or owls.  It was struggling wildly, trying to wriggle out of my hands. I took a box from a nearby wastepaper bin, made a hole for ventilation, carefully placed the bird inside, and raced home.  

Back home, I used my old hamster cage as a temporary shelter for the yellow bulbul. I left it some bread, worms and water. That night before I fell asleep, I grew upset when I saw the bird shivering in the corner, touching no food or water.  I prayed to the Lord and hoped the bird would pull through the night. The next morning it was still alive but growing weaker. I visited my local pet shop and they advised me to purchase their special bird feed mixture and use a thin syringe to push the mixture into its beak.  

I heaved a sigh of relief when it accepted food through the syringe method.  After a while, I noticed the bird opening its beak and begging for more food. Over a few days, I nursed it back to health. Its fear towards me diminished and it even flew to my shoulders when it knew it was feeding time. I named the bird ‘Wednesday’ after the day I found it.  

From then on, Wednesday never failed to brighten my day. It grew into an adult bird within two weeks, but its playful personality always remained. It always tickled my neck when I was studying and snatched any food or snack I brought into my room. Till today, Wednesday is my adorable pet bird and alarm clock in the morning.
