Blood is one recurring image throughout Macbeth, and is used constantly throughout the play. One specific example is the blood Lady Macbeth smells on her hands while sleep walking. This is the same blood that makes her feel so much guilt and and makes her wash her hands so much. Blood was also emphasized earlier in the play, right before Macbeth was about to kill King Duncan. He ended up hallucinating a bloody dagger, and this has many possible symbols that go with it. It was the start of a long road Macbeth was going to have to face, one with lots of blood, misery, and regret. Every time someone is killed, not only is there the obvious blood that gets exposed due to their death, but it also emphasizes that with every murder and death, Macbeth is heading towards bloody ending.
