Read this stanza from “the chimney sweepers.” what is ironic about the situation of the sweepers? and so tom awoke; and we rose in the dark and got with our bags and our brushes to work. though the morning was cold, tom was happy and warm; so if all do their duty, they need not fear harm. although it is dark, sweepers still have to go to work. working hard in cold weather will warm the sweepers up. in order for the sweepers’ conditions to improve, they have to die. if the boys do not do their duty, they will come to harm.
