Think of a time when you used rhetorical devices to persuade someone about something. then, in 150-300 words, describe the situation and identify your use and the success of at least 2 rhetorical devices.

I remember when I was trying to persuade a friend to start exercising. I started with this question: “Don’t you know all the benefits of exercising? Without letting him answer I told him first all the benefits exercising was bringing myself in order to lose weight. I explained him that, first, exercising was good to speed his metabolism, when people do not exercise their metabolism slows down making them gain fat. Second, that exercising is good for his emotions, I told him that when I started exercising my emotions started going up and I was happy all the time. Third, before I started exercising, I felt weaknesses in all my articulations; it was even hard for me to go upstairs. Then, I started exercising and my muscles started to strengthen and I felt that I had a better posture towards life, I felt stronger than my friends, and that really counts. Fourth, and it should have been the first one, exercising makes you look stronger in front of women and that attracts them better. Finally, exercising makes you eat a lot better, now in my breakfast I eat several types of fish, among them trout, which is a very nutritious and delicious fish.

I used two rhetorical devices to try to convince my friend:  

1.Hypophora: the trick of posing a question and then immediately supply the answer, example, “Don’t you know all the benefits of exercising? Without letting him answer I told him first all the benefits exercising was bringing myself in order to lose weight.”

2.Eutrepismus: the act of stating points in the form of a numbered list, example, “I explained him that, first, exercising was good to speed his metabolism, when people do not exercise their metabolism slows down making them gain fat. Second, that exercising is good for his emotions, I told him that when I started exercising…”

"the monkey's paw" is a rare story in that the theme is actually stated in the story. sgt. maj. morris tells the whites that the old fakir who put the spell on the paw said, "fate rules people's lives and those who interfere with fate do so to their sorrow." the message is a warning, but mr. white doesn't believe it. even though sgt. maj. morris makes it clear that he tried wishing with unfortunate results and he tries to throw the paw on the fire,   mr. white makes a wish for 200 pounds only to find that he receives the money when herbert dies in a factory accident. according to the fakir, then, because mr. white had wished for something he should not have had, his son lost his life.

the second wish that mrs. white encourages him to make is for herbert's return--one week after his death. when the strange knocking begins at the door during the windy night, mr. white panicks, believing that the previously dead but still mangled herbert could have walked home from the cemetary and is now at the door. because he fears what his wife will find if she opens the door, mr. white makes his third wish--for the noise to stop.

therefore, he uses his three wishes and to his sorrow, loses his son and disappoints his wife, who fervently believed that their son was at the door. she wanted him back, regardless of his condition.
