In this excerpt, the narrator feels uncomfortable and confused after realizing he/she does not have enough money to buy the products at the grocery and this is reflected on the dialogue with the cashier (“Um . . . sorry. I thought I had more money with me"). For that reason, the author of this personal narrative has an awkward experience in the store. On the other hand, the woman in the line lessens the narrator's need by lending him/her money. The author shows appreciation for it; however, the woman's character is presented as unconcerned for him/her and the only thing she cares about is paying for the products and leaving the store. In that way, the excerpt presents two different experiences in the grocery.
