The story "Two Kinds" ponders the connection of a mother and her little girl who had been raised in various societies. Suyuan, Jing-mei's mom needed her to end up youngster wonder of America. Suyuan tests her little girl in various exercises eagerly. She gives Jing-mei piano exercises as well. Jing-mei also makes a decent attempt yet falls flat. She winds up steamed as she will be the purpose behind her mom's mistake.

Afterwards, Jing-mei needs everybody and her mom to acknowledge her as her. Her mom was not prepared to acknowledge her as she is in all reality
