What was victor frankenstein's strongest motivation for creating life

Victor thought he was doing a service to humanity by creating The Creature. At one point, he says, "A new species would bless me as its creator and source; many happy and excellent natures would owe their being to me. I might in process of time renew life where death had apparently devoted the body to corruption." He wanted to figure out how to cheat death. But obviously, The Creature turned out to be ugly and he thought he failed, resulting in him becoming depressed and hiding away his creation. After all, he wanted to be seen as a human-God.
