"Our Town" was written by Thornton Wilder in 1938. it is a metatheatrical three-act play. It tells us the story of the small town of Grover's Corners between 1901-1913.

In Act 1 the state manager introduces us to the small town of Gover's Corners, its citizens, and their everyday lives. It depicts how Dr. Gibbs returns from delivering twins when his wife starts a fire to prepare breakfast. There are two families who live together: the Gibbs and the Webbs. They are eating together, reading a newspaper, and Mrs. Gibbs and Mrs. Webb are discussing a trip to France. Then the State Manager tells Professor Willard to present geological and anthropological information about the town and asks Mr. Webb to present a political and social report. Later we see George and Emily are discussing their homework. Then George's father asks him to help his mother more, and to be more responsible. And finally, Mr. Webb comes home and finds his daughter Emily is not sleeping. He wishes her Goodnight and goes to sleep. This is the end of Act 1.
