People often think that a hands-free phone is safer than a handed phone. Yet, the hands-free phone is as dangerous as a handed phone when it is used while driving because it distracts our attention from the road, just like the other phones.
EXPLANATION:
The problem in using the phone while driving is not the type or the kind of the phone but the activity of using it for calling or texting during driving. Using phones, whatever the kind of type is, will likely distract our attention from the road. We will directly divide our attention to the roads and to the one we are talking to or texting on the phone.
It is not that handed phone block our hand to handle the steering wheel and hands-free phones allow us to control the steering wheel because it is hands-free. It is our attention that will be distracted while using the phone when driving. The action of using the phone when driving is known as distracted driving.
When we listen or speak to others on the phone, our brain’s ability to process the moving image is decreasing up to 1/3 percent. Even when our eyes are on the road, we will only see 50% of what is on the road. Some believe that talk to others on a hands-free phone is the same as having a conversation with passengers in the car, which is a distracted driving also.
Others even believe that talking to someone on the phone, using the hands-free phone or handed phone, is more dangerous than talking to passengers in the car because there is none to warn the drivers if they need to stop immediately to avoid a car crash.
