"lift every voice and sing" was originally written to music and continues to be sung to this day. watch this video that discusses the poem’s background and includes a performance of the song. what differences do you notice based on your initial reading of the poem compared to your viewing of and listening to the song? your response should be about one paragraph.\plato the song includes only the first stanza. the words from that stanza also differ from the poem i read in a few places: "let our rejoicing" was replaced by "let us rejoice"; "let it resound" was replaced by "let us resound"; and in the last line, "till victory is won" was replaced by "till victory as one." the last line of the song was sung three times, whereas the text version didn’t indicate a repetition. the song’s rhythm was different from the rhythm that the text version seemed to suggest. some of the pauses in the song occurred at unexpected points. the song takes a poem written many years ago and shows that it’s still relevant to many people today, especially children. the fact that the singers adapted the words suggests it is a living song because it continues to evolve.
