The terms pas de deux, arabesque, and ballet all come from the field of dance that was developed in france. what is the best explanation for these words being used in english? people from france are the best dancers in the world. the words were borrowed into english along with the concepts they describe. the french words were revised to become english words. dancing was a new invention, so the words were made up to sound like french.
