I think that Emerson would consider Beowulf a hero. My reasoning behind this choice is that self trust is the essence of heroism. It is the state of the soul at war , and its ultimate objects are the last defiance of falsehood and wrong, and thee power to bear all that can be inflected by evil agents. It speaks the truth, and it is just , generous, hospitable, temperate, scornful of small calculations, and scornful of being scorned. One quality Emerson noted was a soldier of war attitude.
