In this story, we are introduced to a boy named Keesh, who lives with his tribe in the polar regions. Keesh as extremely brave and talented, and this was demonstrated in various ways.

One of the main ways in which Keesh showed his intelligence was by hunting bears. He was able to hunt large bears, repeatedly, on his own. The other members of the tribe believed that this was magic. However, Keesh later revelas that he actually used his brain to trick the bear and to design a device that will weaken the bear enough and allow Keesh to hunt him.

London tells us that Keesh was successful because he exercised "headcraft" and not "witchcraft." What we can learn from this story is that intelligence is much more important than mere strength.
