these are the questions.
which story did you read? describe the physical setting of the story. which words or descriptions contribute to the emotional setting or mood? what is the mood that results from the author’s use of description? what is the theme? how do the final lines of the story influence the meaning or theme of the story? what techniques does the author use to create a surprise ending? were you surprised by the twist? if so, why? if not, what should the author have done to make the ending more surprising and effective? what was your experience in reading this story? did it evoke fear or physically have an effect on you? why or why not?
and here are the answers i did. i need revising it.
the story i read was beware of the dog by roald dahl. the setting of the story is in a hospital in the time of world war ii. the mood is solemn but at times uplifting. the theme is war and capture. the author turned the whole story around by making it to where he was captured instead of being . the author used misdirection for the story. i was a bit surprised by the ending but not too much this was something that happened to soldiers. what i got from this text was not everything is how it seems sometimes you need to dig a bit deeper. at the end i felt like i needed to know what happened to the protagonist. i wanted to know if he was ok.

Read the excerpt from frederick douglass’s speech “what to the slave is the fourth of july? ”go where you may, search where you will, roam through all the monarchies and despotisms of the old world, travel through south america, search out every abuse, and when you have found the last, lay your facts by the side of the everyday practices of this nation, and you will say with me, that, for revolting barbarity and shameless hypocrisy, america reigns without a rival.what is one way that douglass achieves his purpose of persuading the reader to see his point of view? by relating as many facts and statistics to the reader as possibleby using familiar and casual language to make the reader feel comfortableby using gentle language to evoke a sense of calm and tranquilityby repeating the word “you” to directly relate to the reader
