500 word essay analyzing a theme of two kinds

two kinds is a short story about a mother who pushes her daughter to become a prodigy. amy tan uses two types of tone. at the beginning it displays an angry tone, but at the end the tone is apologetic. the purpose of this story is to make the reader realize how much parents want their children to succeed, and how parents feel that their children are a reflection of themselves. the purpose is also how it affected me, it made me realize how much my parents want me to succeed, and that is why they push me, even though they don't push me to the extent that ni kan's mom pushed her. amy tan uses more dialogue than rhetorical devices in her story. one simile i did find is,her fingers felt like a dead person's, like an old peach i once found in the back of the refrigerator.? this shows how old lady chong's fingers felt to the small child. the author switches tones in the middle of the story. the beginning tone is angry. ni kan is irritated with her mother for pushing her against her will. one example of the tone is when ni kan says,i wont let her change me, i promised myself, i wont be what i'm not.? another example isi didn't have to do what my mother said anymore. i wasn't her slave. this wasn't china. i had listened to her before and look what happened.? the tone at the end is regretful. even though ni kan doesn't regret the choices she made as a child she felt bad for how disrespectful towards her mother. an example of this is when she saidit made me proud, as if it were a shiny trophy i had won back.? another example is,i put the jewelry in special silk pouches. the sweaters she knitted in yellow, pink, bright orange? all the colors i hated? i put those in mothproof boxes. i found some old chinese silk dresses, the kind with little slits up the sides.
