Vegetables represent the sources of fiber, vitamins and minerals that help in the control and functioning of the body. Consumption of vegetables improves the bowel habit. Some foods in this group are: broccoli, kale, cabbage, zucchini, etc. Fruits are next to vegetables, representing another source of fiber, vitamins and minerals. Fructose (fruit sugar) increases your blood sugar level quickly. Some examples of fruits are: pineapple, apple, banana, kiwi, cashew, acerola, etc.

Breads and cereals represent the carbohydrates needed for our food and represent the base of the pyramid, indicating the foods that provide energy, because when consumed the carbohydrates are converted into blood sugar. Consumption in its full form is recommended by the number of fibers, vitamins and minerals that slow this absorption.
