The two sentences in the above excerpt which are examples of verbal irony are “San Francisco is one eight populous as New York” and “there are sixty deaths a week in the former and 500 a week in the latter- if they have luck”.

These two sentences are verbal ironies as they showcases the ironical point of view in the excerpt of the Mark Twain. These two sentences are very important in the entire story of Mark Twain.
