• set up sentence: give the reader important information about what is going on in the story right before this quotation occurs.
• textual evidence: should be copied directly from the story. use quotation marks and cited with the author’s last name in parenthesis. the period goes after the parenthesis.
• explanation sentence(s): without restating the textual evidence, explain how the evidence supports the statement and your stand on the statement.
• conclusion sentence: tie the paragraph up with a final thought without being repetitive.
