Explanation:

The theme of this story is inner beauty and how people tend to judge others based on their looks. The setting for the story is  Sacramento, California.  Alfonso is about 13 years old and he is starting to notice how others see him. In the story, it is revealed that Alfonso want to “push his crooked teeth to where he thought they belonged” and “did fifty situps a day" so that he will look more fit. Alfonso had borrowed his brother Ernie's bike to go and meet Sandra because his own bike was broken.
